Nimule Hospital
War related death and suffering are nothing new for the people of South Sudan, and the headlines readily capture the thousands killed by fighting. However whilst the headline figures are alarming, they are small compared to the numbers who suffer and die every year due to the lack of basic heathcare.
In amongst the gloom there are powerful testimonies of what long term investment and commitment can achieve. Nimule hospital is, against all the odds, helping change the national statistics. The facilities may be basic but the hospital is moderately well equipped, clean and the staff are trained and highly motivated. Photographed in 2013, this hospital is run by local staff and has been supported by the British charity Merlin since 2004.
